For the 2022 midterms, Dr. Shortle’s exit poll class will be helping SoonerPoll, News9 (OKC), and News on 6 (Tulsa), to poll early voters around the state. Her students will also be polling voters in OKC’s urban core on Election Day. Stay tuned!
This course gives you the opportunity to gain the experience and knowledge needed to understand, analyze, and discuss politics in an increasingly polarized world. The structure of this course is unique. In many ways, it operates like an internship that takes place during the school year.
So how does this work?
The students in this course will conduct the official Oklahoma City Exit Poll for the midterm U.S. elections held on November 8th, 2022.
This course will meet in a Tuesday evening slot in a classroom TBD.
Prior to the election, the course will meet four to five times before Election Day to prepare for survey data collection.
After the election, we will also meet three to four times to discuss, analyze, and interpret the opinions you have collected from this year's election.
Given the structure of the course, it is essential that you are available on the day/evening of November 8th, 2022 as you will be acting as an official OKC survey enumerator. The instructors are happy to help communicate with your other instructors about any missed coursework for your other classes that might take place on Election Day.
Who is this course for?
Anybody can take this course! The course is open to all majors, including all undergraduates. Graduate students are also welcome. Undergraduates must have completed P SC 1113 to enroll in this course (gen ed American Federal Government requirement). Graduate students should contact Jeff Alexander for more information ([email protected]).
Polling data are central to the work of campaign managers, political organizations, journalists, policy analysts, and many others who work in politics or serve their communities.
